Weekly Pay Calculator

Work out weekly take-home pay from an annual salary, with income tax, the Medicare levy and super shown separately. Useful for weekly-paid award work where the pay cycle and the tax year do not line up neatly.

Your details

Take-home a week

Gross a week

Take-home a week
$1,228.46
Super a week, paid on top
$184.62
Take-home a fortnight

Your employer withholds using the ATO weekly schedule, which is rounded to the dollar. This works out the annual position and divides it back, so it will sit close without matching to the cent.

Worked examples, with the arithmetic.

The same sums the tool runs, on real figures. Every number below is computed by the tested engine from the published rates, so the prose and the tool can never disagree.

How much is $80,000 a year a week?

$80,000 / 52 = $1,538.46 gross
income tax and levy = $310.00
take-home a week = $1,228.46

$1,228.46 a week after income tax and the Medicare levy, from a gross of $1,538.46. That is $2,456.92 if you are paid fortnightly instead, on the same annual salary.

How much tax comes out of a $1,500 week?

$1,500 x 52 = $78,000 a year
annual tax and levy = $15,480.00
divided by 52 = $297.69 a week

About $297.69, leaving $1,202.31. Your payslip will differ by a few dollars because the ATO weekly schedule rounds and ignores offsets.

Is this accurate, and how does it work?

The method is published rather than described. Nothing here is a black box, and the limits are listed as plainly as the workings.

  1. 1Tax the year, not the week. The annual figure is calculated on the resident scale and then divided by 52, because income tax is progressive and assessed annually.
  2. 2Show the levy separately. The Medicare levy is 2% of taxable income and is displayed as its own weekly line rather than hidden inside a single tax number.
  3. 3Treat super as employer cost. The weekly super figure is what the employer contributes on top of the wage. It is never subtracted from take-home pay.

The 2026-27 tax brackets this runs on.

Resident rates. Income is taxed in slices, so only the part inside a bracket pays that bracket rate. The Medicare levy of 2% applies on top of these.

What this does not cover.

  • It uses 52 weeks. A 53-pay year is not modelled.
  • It does not include study loan repayments, the Medicare levy surcharge or salary sacrifice.
  • It converts an annual salary rather than applying the ATO weekly withholding schedule, so small per-pay differences are expected.
  • It does not include overtime or penalty rates, which vary week to week.

Common questions.

How much tax is deducted from weekly pay?

Your employer withholds using the ATO weekly withholding schedule, which approximates your annual position per cycle rather than being a separate tax. This page works out the annual figure and divides it back by 52, so it sits close to a payslip without matching to the cent.

How many weeks are in a pay year?

52 for calculation purposes, though a year is 52 weeks and one day, so some years contain 53 weekly pays. In a 53-pay year the annual total is higher than 52 times the weekly figure.

Is weekly pay better than fortnightly?

For tax, it makes no difference. Your annual liability is identical and only the withholding cycle changes. For budgeting it is a personal preference, and your award or agreement usually sets the cycle anyway.

How do I work out weekly pay from an hourly rate?

Multiply the hourly rate by the ordinary hours you work each week. The hourly rate page on this site converts in both directions and shows the take-home figure for each cycle.
