Editorial Policy and Corrections

How rates are sourced and checked, when they are reviewed, and how we correct an error once it is published.

Sourcing

Every rate comes from a primary source: the Australian Taxation Office for tax, superannuation and Medicare, and the Fair Work Ombudsman for award minimum wages. Figures are read from the source itself, not from a secondary summary of it.

Recording

Each rate is stored with its source URL, the date that source declared as its own last update, and the date we retrieved it. All three are published on the Methodology page.

Figures that have not been published yet

Some thresholds are not released until well into a financial year. Where that happens we carry the prior year forward, say so on the calculator and on the Methodology page, and replace it once the real figure is published.

Review

Olivia Harper, our australian payroll & tax specialist, checks each rate against the award clause or ATO schedule it came from before it is published. She reviews the tax constants at the start of each financial year and after any federal Budget that changes them, and the award rates after the Fair Work Commission Annual Wage Review each June, which takes effect from the first full pay period on or after 1 July.

Corrections

When we publish something wrong we fix it. The corrected figure carries a new retrieval date, and where the error could have changed a reader’s decision a correction note appears on the affected page.

Independence

The calculators are free to use and the site is funded by advertising. Advertisers have no say in the rates we publish or the wording around them, and we do not publish user ratings, reviews or testimonials.
