Fitness Award Pay Rates 2026-27: Every Level
Minimum rates under the Fitness Industry Award 2020 (MA000094), effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026.
The short answer
A fitness industry employee at Level 1 is paid $25.74 an hour or $978.10 a week full-time. A casual at the same classification is paid $32.18 an hour, including the 25% casual loading. On that full-time wage, take-home pay after income tax and the Medicare levy is $44,066 a year, or $1,695 a fortnight.
Level 1 is the bottom of the ladder, not the whole of it. The award also prints Level 3A and Level 4A as classifications in their own right, at $29.45 and $32.13 an hour. They are not Level 3 ($27.97) or Level 4, and they are paid more.

Read the label before the rate
Level 3 and Level 3A are separate classifications. Level 3 is $27.97 an hour, $1,062.90 a week full-time. Level 3A is $29.45 an hour, $1,119.10 a week. The gap is $1.48 an hour, $56.20 a week, and $1.85 an hour for a casual, so a rate quoted against the wrong one of the two labels is short by that much every hour. Level 4 and Level 4A are separate in the same way. Level 6 is paid below Level 5. The award prints Level 5 at $1,287.20 a week and Level 6 at $1,276.00, then Level 7 at $1,325.70. The Fitness Industry Award 2020 sets 9 adult classifications, from $25.74 an hour, $978.10 a week full-time, at Level 1, to $34.89 an hour, $1,325.70 a week, at Level 7, from 1 July 2026. The award prints Level 3 and Level 3A as two separate classifications at two different rates: Level 3 is $27.97 an hour and Level 3A is $29.45 an hour. What is the difference between Level 3 and Level 3A in the fitness industry award?
They are two different classifications paid at two different rates, and the labels differ by a single character. Level 3 is $27.97 an hour, $1,062.90 a week full-time, casual $34.96 an hour. Level 3A is $29.45 an hour, $1,119.10 a week, casual $36.81 an hour. Level 3A sits $1.48 an hour above Level 3, $56.20 a week full-time and $1.85 an hour for a casual, so a figure quoted against the wrong label is short by that much for every hour worked. Which of the two applies is decided by the award's own classification definitions, which turn on the work done and the qualification held rather than on a job title. This page publishes the rates, not the level test, so read the definition in the award before reading a rate off the table.
Why does Level 6 pay less than Level 5 under this award?
Because that is what the award publishes. Level 5 is $1,287.20 a week, $33.87 an hour. Level 6 is $1,276.00 a week, $33.58 an hour, which is $0.29 an hour below it. Level 7 then rises to $34.89 an hour. The table above reproduces the award's figures in the award's order rather than reordering them so they climb, because a table that disagrees with the award is worse than a table that reads oddly. Both rates were read from the award's minimum rates clause and checked a second time against Schedule B.
Do fitness award rates change from state to state?
No. This is a modern award made under the federal Fair Work Act, so a classification is paid the same minimum in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and both territories. There is no separate state rate under this award to look up. The one boundary worth knowing is coverage rather than rate: modern awards apply to national system employers, and in Western Australia a business that is not a constitutional corporation can sit in the state industrial relations system instead. That changes which instrument covers the employer, not the figures this award sets.
What is the casual rate under the fitness industry award?
The award publishes a casual hourly rate against every one of its 9 classifications, from $32.18 an hour at Level 1 to $43.61 an hour at Level 7. Each includes the 25% casual loading, and each is the award's own published figure rather than our multiplication of the base rate, because the award rounds differently from a calculator.
