Kmart Pay Rates 2026-27

Kmart store staff are paid under the Kmart National Agreement 2024, approved by the Fair Work Commission in [2024] FWCA 4020. Every rate is the retail award rate plus a fixed number of cents, so an adult Retail Assistant is paid $27.96 an hour from July 2026.

The short answer

An adult Retail Assistant at Kmart is paid $27.96 an hour, the award’s Level 1 rate plus 15 cents, or $1,062.48 a week full-time. A Supervisor is paid $31.26 an hour. A casual Retail Assistant is paid $34.95 an hour on weekdays, including the 25% loading.

Kmart pay rates, role by role.

Adult base rates for the five classifications in clause 7.5, each tied to a retail award level. The base rate covers ordinary hours from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Weekly figures are the hourly rate times 38.

In force from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026. Every figure marked * is derived.

* Clause 8.1.2 sets the base rate as the retail award rate for the equivalent level after each July Annual Wage Review, plus 15 cents an hour from July 2026. The award rates are the ones in PR799285; the casual rate adds the 25% loading and rounds to the cent. Weekly figures are the hourly rate times 38. Take-home is an estimate for a single Australian resident for tax purposes working 38 hours a week, with no study loan and no Medicare levy surcharge, using the same Wage Calculator as the rest of this site. Superannuation is paid on top.

When the rates change.

Each increase starts with a pay period rather than on the date itself, so a payslip that spans a changeover can carry the old rate for part of the period.

How the agreement compares with the retail award.

Kmart’s agreement names the retail award level each role matches (clause 7.5), so each role is set against that level. The base rate difference is the 15 cents clause 8.1.2 adds from July 2026. From 1 December 2026, junior rates for 18 and 19 year olds follow the award up, because the agreement pays at least the award junior rate plus 1 cent: $20.87 and $23.65 an hour for those with more than six months’ service.

The retail award lifts its junior percentages for 18 and 19 year olds who have been with their employer for more than six months, in steps from 1 December 2026 (PR813655). This agreement pays juniors at least the award junior rate plus 1 cent, so its rate for them rises with the award.

Award figures are the General Retail Industry Award rates in force from 1 July 2026 (PR799285), as published on the Retail Award Pay Rates page. Every comparison here is arithmetic on the two sets of figures, and covers base rates only, before penalties, allowances and loadings.

Junior rates.

Clause 8.2.1 applies to Retail Assistants and Ride-on Trolley Collectors under 20. A team member under 20 working as a Clerical Administrator, Assistant Supervisor or Supervisor is paid the adult rate (clause 8.2.2).

Evening, weekend and public holiday rates.

Clause 8.1.2 and Appendix C. Until July 2028, every hour outside Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm, is paid at the retail award’s rate for that hour plus 1 cent. The percentages are the award penalties the agreement’s schedule applies to the award rate for the equivalent level, and the casual column includes the award’s casual loading. The agreement’s own printed schedule sat 1 to 3 cents above that formula in 111 of its 510 other-hours figures, so the formula is the minimum.

The rates as the agreement prints them.

Appendix C prints a full rate for every hour of the week, at the July 2024 award rates plus 7 cents. They were in force when the agreement began on 10 March 2025, and they are shown here because every adult base rate in them is the award rate plus exactly 7 cents, which is how the rates in force now are worked out.

Who the Kmart agreement covers.

Clause 2.1 says: “This Agreement covers and applies to team members in Retail Stores who are employed by Kmart Australia Limited (‘Kmart’).” That takes in the classifications in clause 7 and team members employed to do a Certificate II in Retail or a Certificate III in Retail Operations. Clause 2.2 leaves out “team members employed within retail stores salaried management positions”, and apprentices or trainees placed at Kmart by an outside training organisation.

A Retail Assistant does the work of a Retail Employee Level 1 under the award, a Ride-on Trolley Collector a Level 2, a Clerical Administrator or Assistant Supervisor a Level 4, and a Supervisor a Level 6. The agreement was approved on 18 November 2024 and began operating on 10 March 2025.

Every figure on this page comes from the agreement as published by the Fair Work Commission, which prints the approval decision on its first pages, and from the Commission’s Annual Wage Review determinations for the General Retail Industry Award that the agreement’s increase rule refers to. Nothing is copied from a union, recruiter, salary survey or other pay site. The extraction stops on any cent of disagreement:

  • 5 of 5: every printed adult base rate is the PR773888 award rate for its level plus 7 cents, to the cent
  • 15 of 15: every printed casual base rate is the permanent rate plus 25%, to the cent
  • 10 of 10 junior base rates are at or above clause 8.2.1(b) and (c); 8 of them are the award junior rate plus 7 cents
  • the percentage row is the same in all five permanent tables and all five casual tables
  • 399 of 510 other-hours figures equal the award rate for that hour plus 1 cent (46 of them at a percentage the determination does not print); 111 are 1 to 3 cents above it and none is below

What this page does not cover.

  • Dollar figures for other hours

The agreement pays evenings, weekends and public holidays at the award rate plus 1 cent. The percentages are shown; the dollar figures for July 2026 are not, because the printed 2024 schedule sat up to 3 cents above that formula.

  • Salaried management

Salaried store management positions are outside the agreement.

  • Trainees and supported wage

Trainee rates (clause 8.4) and supported wage rates (Appendix D) are not tabled here.

  • Allowances

Location, Broken Hill and other allowances are set elsewhere in the agreement.

  • Advertised pay

These are the minimums the agreement sets, not what a given store advertises.

  • Award-covered retail work

Shops not on their own agreement pay the award, which is on Retail Award Pay Rates.

Kmart Pay Rates questions, answered.

How much does Kmart pay an hour?

An adult Retail Assistant at Kmart is paid $27.96 an hour from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026, or $1,062.48 for a 38-hour week. The agreement sets it as the retail award's Level 1 rate, $27.81, plus 15 cents. A Supervisor is paid $31.26 an hour.

Does Kmart pay above the retail award?

By a fixed margin written into clause 8.1.2. Weekday daytime rates are the award rate for the equivalent level plus 15 cents an hour from July 2026, 20 cents from July 2027 and 25 cents from July 2028. Every other hour, evenings, weekends, public holidays and overtime, is paid at the award's rate for that hour plus 1 cent until July 2028. How the award sets those penalties is on Penalty Rates. The other retail agreements read here work differently: Woolworths Pay Rates and Coles Pay Rates each print their own rates and lift them by the award's percentage rise every July.

What is the casual rate at Kmart?

A casual Retail Assistant is paid $34.95 an hour on weekdays between 7am and 6pm, which is the base rate plus 25%. Other hours follow the award's casual percentages plus 1 cent: 150% of the award rate on a Saturday between 7am and 11pm, 175% on a Sunday between 9am and 11pm, and 250% on a public holiday.

What does a 15 or 16 year old earn at Kmart?

A Retail Assistant under 16 is paid $12.58 an hour and a 16 year old $13.98, from July 2026. Clause 8.2.1 pays the greatest of three figures: the printed junior rate, the award's junior percentage of the Kmart adult rate, and the award's junior rate plus 1 cent. At every age the percentage of the Kmart rate is the highest now. The award's junior rates are on Junior Pay Rates.

When does the Kmart National Agreement expire?

Its nominal expiry date is 17 November 2028. The agreement keeps applying after that date until it is replaced or terminated, and its last scheduled step, the award rate plus 25 cents, falls in July 2028.
