ATO Tax Tables 2026-27

The ATO tax tables for 2026-27 apply to payments made from 1 July 2026. For regular pay there are three: the Weekly Tax Table (NAT 1005), the Fortnightly Tax Table (NAT 1006) and the Monthly Tax Table (NAT 1007). Each gives the tax withheld from one pay with the tax-free threshold claimed and without it. All three come from the same Schedule 1 formula, and all 9,725 printed rows are checked to the dollar against the ATO's tables on this site.

How to read a tax table.

Three choices give the amount: the table, the row and the column.

  1. 1Pick the table for the pay cycle. A weekly pay uses the weekly table, a fortnightly pay the fortnightly table and a monthly pay the monthly table. Each prints the amount to withhold for a pay of that size, rounded to the dollar.
  2. 2Pick the column the declaration sets. Column 2 where the payee claims the tax-free threshold from this payer, column 3 where they do not. Most people claim it from one payer only, and who should is set out on the Tax-Free Threshold page.
  3. 3Add the adjustments the table leaves out. The table amount comes before a study loan component, which STSL Component adds, and before any tax offset or Medicare levy adjustment claimed on a withholding declaration. Bonuses, leave paid out on termination and termination payments are withheld under their own schedules, listed below.

Other ATO withholding schedules.

Payments that are not regular pay are withheld under their own schedules, not the tables above. Each is applied by a calculator on this site, from the ATO’s 2026-27 text.

What this does not cover.

  • It covers the three 2026-27 tables for regular weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay, and the schedules listed. The ATO publishes further tables for other payees and payments, which are not reproduced here.
  • Earlier years' tables are not shown. A pay made before 1 July 2026 is withheld under the 2025-26 tables.

Common questions.

Which tax table should I use?

The one that matches how often the pay is made: weekly, fortnightly or monthly. A payroll that runs weekly reads the weekly table for every pay, even if the employee thinks of their salary as an annual figure. The Tax Withheld Calculator applies the same formula to any pay without needing the table.

Do the weekly, fortnightly and monthly tables give the same tax over a year?

Almost. On a $78,000 salary, 52 weekly pays withhold $15,548, 26 fortnightly pays withhold $15,548, 12 monthly pays withhold $15,552, with the tax-free threshold claimed. The $4 spread is rounding: each table rounds one pay to the dollar, and the weekly figure behind the fortnightly and monthly tables is rounded too. The tax actually owed is settled in the tax return, whichever table was used.

When do the 2026-27 tax tables start?

They apply to payments made from 1 July 2026, whatever period the pay covers. The ATO published all three on 17 June 2026. A pay made on 30 June 2026 for work in June uses the 2025-26 tables; one made on 1 July uses these.

Is the tax in the table the tax I owe?

No. It is a prepayment toward the year's income tax, the Medicare levy and any study loan repayment, set so that a steady wage from one job lands close to the year's bill. A second job, deductions, a bonus or a change of pay moves the final figure, which is worked out when you lodge. The Tax Return Calculator estimates it.

What tax tables cover bonuses, leave payouts and redundancy?

Separate ATO schedules: Schedule 5 for bonuses, commissions and back pay, Schedule 7 for unused leave paid when a job ends, and Schedule 11 for employment termination payments, which include redundancy pay above the tax-free limit. The schedules table on this page names the calculator on this site that applies each one.
